About Mr Alistair Mayne
Mr Alistair Mayne is a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon at Kingsbridge Private Hospital in Belfast and the North West, and a consultant at the Southern Health and Social Care Trust. He specialises in hip and knee sports injuries and joint replacement surgery. His practice covers hip and knee replacement, hip arthroscopy for young adult hip conditions, hip resurfacing, and joint preservation procedures. He provides sports knee surgery including ligament reconstruction and meniscal surgery, and accepts patients without referral. He trained in young adult hip and hip preservation at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham, followed by the Perth Sports Surgery Fellowship in Western Australia with advanced training in sports knee surgery and hip and knee sports injuries. Mr Mayne graduated first in his year from Liverpool Medical School and completed higher surgical training in trauma and orthopaedics on the East of Scotland rotation before returning to Northern Ireland. He holds a Master’s in Clinical Education from Queen’s University Belfast, awarded with Distinction, and received the Sir Walter Mercer Gold Medal for the highest mark in the FRCS (Tr & Orth) examination in the UK and Ireland in 2021. An active researcher, he has presented nationally and internationally and published over forty peer-reviewed papers, with awards including the Martin Medal for Orthopaedic Research in Northern Ireland, the British Orthopaedic Association “Best of the Best” Award (2022) and the British Hip Society/Bone & Joint Journal Translational Research Prize (2024).
