I qualified in 2007 from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and spent my early training in the West Midlands and South West. After securing a run-through post in the West Midlands in 2010 I went on to complete my higher surgical training on the Birmingham Orthopaedic Training Programme obtaining my FRCS(Tr&Orth) in 2017 and formal completion of training in 2018.

I was awarded a travelling fellowship to the Endoklinik (Hamburg, Germany) by the British Orthopaedic Association in 2017.

I undertook sub-specialist training in Sheffield as the Cavendish Arthroplasty fellow. My fellowship experiences include all aspects of hip and knee replacements surgery including primary, complex primary and revisions (re-do) surgery for infection, loosening, instability and fractures.

My diverse experience includes a lab-based doctoral degree leading to the award of PhD in 2013. In 2017 I was appointed to the British Orthopaedic Associations National Clinical Leadership Programme (supported by Health Education England) and developed the Birmingham Orthopaedic Network.

I have authored/collaborated on over 30 peer-reviewed papers so far with 600 citations and 2 book chapters. I have presented research work over 75 times internationally & nationally.

I am enthusiastic about teaching, and hold roles with various HEEWM committees including two training programme director roles. I am a regular faculty member on Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and Basic Biomechanics in Orthopaedics (BBiOrth) as well as participating in local medical and surgical teaching from medical students through to FRCS(Tr&Orth) candidates. As of Jan 2021 I’ve joined the British Orthopaedic Association Education and Careers Committee as head of digital and simulation.

I have been awarded multiple awards and bursaries from national bodies including the British Orthopaedic Association, Health Education England and the Wellcome Trust.

In August 2019 I was appointed the NHS England Clinical Entrepreneurship Programme to satiate my innovative and entrepreneurial interests, and in October 2019 I was seconded to Health Education England as a Training Programme Director for Core Surgical Training in the West Midlands.

During the COVID Pandemic – I started constructing a virtual learning environment which is now rolled out across the West Midlands. Since August 2020 I’ve held the role of Head of Virtual Learning for HEE Midlands.
