About Dr Timothy Leung
Dr Timothy Leung is a Consultant Psychiatrist and the lead psychiatrist for Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals. He has extensive experience in assessing and treating mental health difficulties in individuals with physical health conditions, particularly those with acute and chronic heart and lung diseases. Dr Leung specialises in the management of adjustment disorder, anxiety and panic, depression, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), psychosis, schizophrenia, and stress-related conditions. Dr Leung studied Medicine at the University of Cambridge, where he also obtained an intercalated degree in Physiology and Psychology with First Class Honours. During his studies, he received multiple prizes and scholarships, including the Darwin Prize in Natural Sciences, the Rapaport Prize in Medical Sciences, and a Bachelor scholarship from Christ’s College, Cambridge. He completed his core psychiatry training in North West London and became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) in 2017. He then undertook higher training in General Adult Psychiatry on the esteemed Maudsley Training Programme, gaining specialist experience in liaison psychiatry at Guy’s Hospital, perinatal psychiatry, neurodevelopmental disorders, early intervention in psychosis, and National Psychosis Services at Bethlem Royal Hospital. He holds a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Psychiatry from the General Medical Council, with a specialist endorsement in Liaison Psychiatry. Dr Leung has a strong interest in medical education. He was a Leadership and Education Fellow with Health Education England Kent, Surrey and Sussex, where he contributed to improving the quality of postgraduate psychiatry training in Surrey. He later worked as a Fellow in Medical Education and Honorary Lecturer at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Education with Distinction from the University of Cambridge. Additionally, he obtained a Master of Science in Healthcare Leadership and Commissioning with Distinction from Brighton and Sussex Medical School. Currently, Dr Leung serves as an Educational Supervisor for undergraduate medical students at King’s College London and is an Educational Supervisor for postgraduate trainee psychiatrists on the Maudsley Training Programme. Dr Leung has contributed significantly to psychiatric research and medical education. He has published articles on psychiatry training adaptations during the COVID-19 pandemic and has presented his work at international conferences, including the European Congress of Psychiatry and the Royal College of Psychiatrists International Congress.
