Dr Tamer Ibrahim Metwaly is an accomplished neurosurgeon with over 20 years of experience in brain tumours, vascular neurosurgery (microsurgical and endovascular), spine surgery, and paediatric neurosurgery. He combines academic leadership with advanced clinical practice, currently serving as Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Alexandria University and Consultant Neurosurgeon at Burjeel Royal Hospital, Al Ain.
Dr Metwaly graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from Alexandria Faculty of Medicine in 2003, followed by a Master’s in General Surgery in 2008. He completed his PhD in Neurosurgery at Alexandria University in 2014. To further enhance his training, he undertook two prestigious clinical fellowships in Japan in 2012, at Shinshu University Hospital and Aizawa Hospital in Matsumoto, Nagano.
His career includes progressive academic and clinical posts, from House Officer at Alexandria University Hospital (2003) to Neurosurgery Resident (2005–2008), Assistant Lecturer (2008–2014), Lecturer (2014–2019), and later Assistant Professor (2019–2024). on sept 2025 he promoted to full professor. In July 2024, he was appointed Consultant Neurosurgeon at Burjeel Royal Hospital, Al Ain, where he continues to deliver advanced neurosurgical care.
Actively engaged in research, Dr Metwaly has authored numerous publications and remains committed to advancing knowledge and innovation in neurosurgery.
