About Mr Sofoklis Panteleimonitis
Mr Sofoklis Panteleimonitis, MBChB, BSc, MRes, MD (Research), FRCS, is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon specialising in robotic and minimally invasive surgery for colon and rectal conditions. He works in the NHS at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (Good Hope Hospital & Solihull Hospital) and sees private patients at Spire Little Aston Hospital in Birmingham. Training and Background He graduated in medicine from the University of Leicester with an MBChB and intercalated BSc, before completing higher surgical training in the Wessex Deanery, a leading UK programme for minimally invasive colorectal surgery, and gaining the FRCS (General Surgery). He went on to complete two advanced robotic colorectal fellowships at St Mark’s Hospital in London and the Champalimaud Foundation in Lisbon. Clinical Interests and Conditions Treated Mr Panteleimonitis specialises in robotic and keyhole surgery for colorectal cancer and other bowel conditions, as well as hernia surgery. Conditions and areas commonly treated include: • Colon and rectal cancer • Diverticular disease • Haemorrhoids and other benign colorectal conditions • Pilonidal sinus disease (including minimally invasive endoscopic treatment) • Inguinal, umbilical and other abdominal wall hernias He places strong emphasis on modern, minimally invasive and robotic techniques to support faster recovery and improved long-term outcomes. He has also been involved in media features on robotic surgery, including filming for a Channel 5 documentary about surgeons.
