About

Samuel Turner is a Consultant General Surgeon with a specialist interest in hernia surgery and renal transplantation. He has dedicated his career to helping patients feel better, regain confidence in their health, and return to living life fully.

He studied Medicine at King’s College London and completed his higher specialist surgical training across London and the South East. He has been a Consultant Surgeon at North Bristol NHS Trust, one of the UK’s leading centres for general and specialist surgery, for nine years. During this time, he has performed hundreds of hernia repairs alongside hundreds of renal transplants in both adults and children.

Mr Turner performs both open and laparoscopic (keyhole) hernia repairs and is committed to delivering the most appropriate evidence-based treatment, tailored to each individual patient. Patients and colleagues alike value his calm approach and the time he takes to explain each step of the treatment journey.

He believes that the best surgical care begins with listening. Every patient’s situation is unique, whether it involves a small groin hernia or a more complex issue related to a previous surgical incision. His goal is always to provide clear explanations, honest advice, and a treatment plan that aligns with each patient’s needs and lifestyle.

Outside the operating theatre, he is involved in the clinical leadership of the North Bristol transplant unit, helping to drive service growth and improve the safety and quality of surgical care. He also teaches resident doctors and medical students as an Academy Tutor and presents at national conferences, ensuring he remains up to date with the latest advances in surgery so his patients benefit from high-quality, evidence-based care.

Patients considering hernia surgery are welcome to arrange a consultation to discuss their options and receive personalised guidance on the most appropriate treatment.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
