About Dr Richard Marks
Dr Richard Marks is a highly experienced Anaesthetist. They are a registered mediator with a passion for dispute resolution. Their medical management career involved resolving many disputes affecting patients, doctors and medical staff. Dr Marks has held the position of Vice-President of the Royal College of Anaesthetists. They were also elected as a Council Member of the Royal Medical College, taking responsibility for standards of training and care in anaesthesia. Dr Marks has worked as a College Tutor and Training Programme Director, managing the training of junior doctors. Dr Marks has been involved in several inquiries and investigations, including leading a Coroners Regulation 28 Enquiry. They have also been involved in an enquiry following a throat pack not being removed. Additionally, they investigated a delay in recognising and treating acute anaphylaxis to anaesthesia. Dr Marks is considered a recognised expert on anaesthesia for difficult airways. As a cardiac Anaesthetist, they were internationally recognised as an expert in Fast Track Cardiac Surgery and involved in research on cerebral perfusion. Their research on the use of non-steroidal analgesics in heart surgery has been influential. More recently, they have been involved in ergonomic studies of working practices in anaesthesia and identified patterns of working associated with disc prolapse amongst anaesthetists.
