Mr Reece Sher is a Melbourne based neurosurgeon and spinal surgeon with subspecialty interests in minimally invasive neurooncology, cerebrovascular surgery, and reconstructive/ motion preserving spinal surgery. Mr Sher undertook his neurosurgical and spinal surgical training at a number of reknowned and distinguished hospitals including the Royal North Shore Hospital, Royal Hobart Hospital, Monash Hospital, Monash Children's Hospital and Austin Hospital. He further developed his expertise during a combined neurosurgical and orthopaedic complex spinal surgery fellowship at the Austin Hospital. Mr Sher also completed an honorary spinal fellowship at the Alfred Hospital. Mr Sher has complemented his training with a number of additional visiting fellowships with interstate and international leading experts in the areas of his subspecialty interests including centres in United Kingdom, France, Singapre, Germany, USA and Canada. Mr Sher believes in delivering the best care for his patients and regularly collaborates with local and international experts to exchange knowledge and ideas to deliver on this goal.
Mr Sher is also a PhD candidate at Monash University with his work being awarded the Best Basic Science Paper at the North American Spine Society annual international conference in Florida. This is one of very few times that this award has been presented to candidates outside of North America. Mr Sher continues to be involved in research and has presented his work at both national and international conferences. Mr Sher has active teaching commitments and is regularly invited to present and teach at local and international conferences and surgical courses.
Mr Sher holds public appointments at the Austin Hospital and Monash Hospitals, and privately at Epworth Richmond, Cabrini Malvern and Jesse McPherson Private Hospitals. His main rooms are located at East Melbourne, however, Mr Sher provides additional consulting at Monash Specialist Centre in Clayton and John Fawkner Private Hospital in Coburg for the convenience of his patients.
