Dr Ramesh Iyer is a Specialist in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, Endocrine Surgery and General Surgery at Mater Health Hub. He completed his medical degree at Bangalore University, India in 1992, followed by his postgraduate surgical training and a fellowship in general surgery from Mumbai University, India in 1996. He later relocated to the UK and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2008.

Specialising in oncoplastic breast surgery and endocrine surgery, Dr Iyer has specialist expertise in breast cancer surgeries, mastectomies, various mammoplasty techniques for breast cancer excisions, as well as clinically indicated reduction mammoplasties with nipple repositioning (breast lift) and implant reconstruction post cancer surgery. Additionally, he performs endocrine procedures such as thyroidectomies and parathyroidectomies.

In his general surgical practice, Dr Iyer performs laparoscopic hernia repairs, complex hernias requiring component separation techniques, laparoscopic cholecystectomies, bowel surgeries, pilonidal sinus excision, among other procedures.

Alongside his position at Mater Health, Dr Iyer is the Surgeon Lead for Breastscreen Ipswich and is part of the Q Group for Breast Screen Australia. He also serves as the Academic Supervisor for medical students at Ipswich Clinical School as part of the University of Queensland.

Committed to providing specialised comprehensive care for breast cancer in both public and private environments, Dr Iyer collaborates closely with breast care nurses, psychologists, and physiotherapists as part of a multidisciplinary team involved in the care of breast cancer patients from initial diagnosis through operation and post-surgery management. He offers immediate and delayed breast reconstruction with implants as part of breast cancer treatment.
