Professor Peter Barlis is a Consultant Cardiologist with many years of experience in the field of interventional cardiology, treating artery blockage and stent blockage. He sees private patients at the East Melbourne Clinic.

Professor Barlis earned his primary medical degree at the University of Melbourne in 1997, after which he went on to undertake his basic and advanced medical training. He was awarded several national and international fellowships with the Royal Brompton Hospital London, the Thoxacentre in the Netherlands and the Prestigious National Heart and Lung Institute.

Since his Consultant appointment, Professor Barlis has pioneered a new imaging technique in Australia, Optical Coherence Tomography, which uses laser light to detect disease and cholesterol build up in the arteries. Professor Barlis has also lead several international and national cardiovascular clinical trials and regularly brings in research funding for the University of Melbourne. During his time in the clinical research community, Professor Barlis has authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles in renowned medical journals and has also held the position of editor for various textbooks. He has also been appointed Panel Member for the Australian Department of Health by Greg Hunt MP, Minister for Health. He actively partakes in public health and is the Board Director of the East Timor Heart Fund, and the Mental Health Foundation.


Peter is also actively involved in community and public health including being a Board Director of the Mental Health Foundation Australia (https://www.mhfa.org.au) and the East Timor Heart Fund (https://easttimorheartsfund.org.au) and Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
