Dr. med. Schumacher studierte Medizin an der Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel. Bereits während seines Studiums entwickelte er ein starkes Interesse für die Nasenchirurgie und begann seine wissenschaftliche Arbeit im Bereich der Hals-, Nasen- und Ohrenheilkunde. Für seine Forschungsarbeit erhielt er ein Stipendium an der renommierten Yale University in den USA.
Dr. med. Schumacher ist ordentliches Mitglied der Deutschen Gesellschaft der Plastischen, Rekonstruktiven und Ästhetischen Chirurgen (DGPRÄC). Darüber hinaus ist er Mitglied der International Confederation for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (IPRAS) und der European Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (ESPRAS). Zudem ist er assoziiertes Mitglied in der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Chirurgie (DGCH).
