About

Simon Coope is a highly experienced Musculoskeletal (MSK) Podiatrist and Biomechanics Specialist with more than 30 years in clinical practice. His career has spanned the NHS, private hospitals, elite sports environments, and medico-legal expert witness work, giving him a unique depth of expertise in foot and lower limb biomechanics. He is committed to evidence-based care and has a particular focus on the prevention and management of complex musculoskeletal conditions.

Simon’s clinical experience includes working within NHS Podiatric Surgery at Doncaster & Mexborough alongside Mr Antony Wilkinson of Coriel Orthopaedics, as well as running Biomechanics and Gait Analysis clinics with RDaSH and York NHS Trusts. In the private sector, he has worked at Nuffield Health under the mentorship of Mr Andrew Horwood—co-author of Clinical Biomechanics in Human Locomotion—and has also provided care through BUPA, Classic, and Spire Hospitals.

In elite sport, Simon has worked directly with Premier League football and Rugby League teams, collaborating closely with Health & Science staff to optimise performance and reduce injury risk. He also supports local athletes across a wide variety of disciplines, from recreational runners to competitors in niche sports.

In 2003, Simon was commissioned by the Home Office to conduct an audit on the benefits of podiatric biomechanical assessment and preventative treatment for police recruits, with the aim of reducing work-related injuries.

Areas of expertise:

• Lower limb biomechanics and orthotic therapy

• Sports injury prevention and rehabilitation

• Gait analysis

• Complex musculoskeletal presentations

Special interests include:

• Inflammatory joint disease

• Podo-paediatrics

Alongside his clinical practice, Simon delivers training for GPs and other healthcare professionals. He has also lectured at the University of Bath’s Primary Care Rheumatology Course on Biomechanics of the Rheumatoid Foot, sharing his knowledge with the next generation of clinicians.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
