About Mr Shiv Bhanot
Mr Shiv Bhanot is an established Consultant Urological Surgeon and has held the post of Consultant Urological Surgeon within Barking, Havering and Redbridge NHS Trust since 1995. He has over 15 years of experience and has carried out more than 1,000 prostatectomies, of which half are laparoscopic operations. He introduced the laparoscopic (keyhole) prostatectomy procedure in Essex in 2005, while also pioneering the extraperitoneal and minimal cut laparoscopic surgery for prostate cancer, which is less traumatic than a standard robotic or laparoscopic prostatectomy and a 'nerve-sparing' technique to preserve potency in younger men with early prostate cancer. Apart from prostate cancer Mr Bhanot deals with general urological ailments which include men's health issues, kidney stones, BPH, kidney cancer and urinary incontinence. Mr Bhanot has contributed to research regarding the application of various forms of energy including radio-frequency, microwaves and lasers to prostatic enlargement, working on basic science potential of clinical research, leading to improvements in diagnostic methods and surgical techniques, setting up of one-stop diagnostic services. Mr Bhanot is an honorary lecturer at the Institute of Urology, London, while also dedicating time to train several urology consultants and fellows in advanced laparoscopic surgical techniques. He is also a board director for the Société Internationale d'Urologie and on the panel of the national cancer peer review group, regularly reviewing research papers submitted to the Gold Journal of Urology and is credited with several original research papers. He is an honoured visiting professor to several universities in the Middle East, USA and China.
