Mr. Nikesh Thiruchelvam is a consultant urologist based in Cambridge, currently practicing at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital. His clinical work covers bladder investigations, stress urinary incontinence (SUI), and prostate surgery, including the UroLift® procedure. He also has specialist expertise in benign prostate enlargement, vasectomy, and microsurgical vasectomy reversal.
Mr. Thiruchelvam qualified in medicine from St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College, University of London (MB BS, 1996). He completed his urological training at several leading institutions, including St Bartholomew’s, the Royal London Hospital, Ipswich Hospital, and Great Ormond Street Hospital. He obtained an MD in London and was appointed Consultant Urologist at Cambridge University Hospitals in 2009. His international fellowships in the USA and Australia focused on advanced techniques for managing prostate enlargement and urinary incontinence.
An active contributor to clinical research and education, Mr. Thiruchelvam has published extensively in textbooks, patient guides, and peer-reviewed journals. He is a co-author of the European Association of Urology Guidelines for Urinary Incontinence and serves as faculty for the European School of Urology. He frequently lectures at international conferences and holds Visiting Professorships abroad. In 2023 his work was featured in the BBC series Surgeons: At the Edge of Life.
