Nicholas Bottomley is a specialist orthopaedic knee surgeon whose practice covers the full spectrum of paediatric and adult knee conditions.
He works at the internationally recognised Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, part of Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, as well as at the Manor Hospital. He graduated from Imperial College Medical School in 2001, and also holds a first-class honours degree in Orthopaedics from University College London. He later completed a DPhil (PhD) at the University of Oxford, focusing on research into the progression of early knee arthritis.
To further develop his expertise, Mr Bottomley undertook advanced training in sports knee injuries in Brisbane, Australia, where he worked with a specialist surgical team caring for professional rugby union and rugby league athletes.
His clinical interests include the management of sports injuries—such as anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, multi-ligament injuries, and meniscal repair—as well as the treatment of knee pain and arthritis, particularly in its early stages. He also specialises in knee replacement surgery, offering both partial and total knee replacements, and has expertise in managing patellofemoral (kneecap) instability.
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Bottomley is actively involved in orthopaedic research, contributing to national studies, and regularly teaches and lectures internationally, particularly on partial knee replacement techniques.
