Mr. Akula earned his primary medical qualification at the University of Health Sciences, India, after which he came to the UK to undertake his basic and specialist surgical training in Yorkshire. Mr. Akula was then awarded a research fellowship at the University of Leeds, where he gained expertise and knowledge in orthopedics and trauma research, authored several peer-reviewed articles, and was granted the opportunity to present this research at national conferences.
Mr. Akula was then awarded his higher training by the London deanery in Trauma & Orthopaedics, during which, he gained knowledge on the Southwest Thames London rotation under St. Georges University Hospital. After this, he then trained as a spinal surgeon for two and a half years at renowned UK spinal units, including Epsom & St Heliers, Frimley Park, and Brighton Hospital. Mr. Akula was later awarded an international spinal fellowship in Toronto, at the Krembil Neuroscience Centre, where he gained further knowledge in spinal pathology from an orthopaedic and also neurosurgical perspective. Upon completion of his training and fellowships, Mr. Akula was appointed Consultant in 2016.
