About

Mr Jayesh Sagar is a consultant general and laparoscopic colorectal surgeon with private practices at Spire Harpenden Hospital, The Clementine Churchill Hospital, One Hatfield Hospital, and the Cobham Clinic. He specialises in lower GI surgery, particularly open and laparoscopic surgery.

Mr Sagar predominantly carries out elective bowel surgery and has on-call commitments for all general surgical emergencies. He has expertise in both open and laparoscopic surgery for bowel cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. He also offers single port laparoscopic surgery for bowel cancer in particular. In addition to laparoscopic surgery for hernias, Mr Sagar also deals with all aspects of ano-proctology including haemorrhoidal artery ligation operation (HALO) and transanal haemorrhoidal artery devascularisation (THD). He also treats large rectal polyps and early rectal cancer with trans-anal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS) and is an accredited endoscopist.

Mr Sagar gained his medical qualifications in India before completing his basic surgical training in the UK. He specialised in colorectal and general surgery in the South-West Thames region and also spent time in research at the Royal Free Hospital and University College. He also completed a senior fellowship in recurrent rectal cancer and pelvic floor surgery at St Thomas' Hospital in London. Mr Sagar remains involved in research and has a number of publications in medical journals. He is also involved in medical education and regularly teaches junior doctors, medical students, and nurses. For four years, he was an honorary clinical teacher at University College London, and he is currently the undergraduate specialty lead for surgery at Luton and Dunstable Hospital.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
