His basic surgical training was undertaken in Hull and East Riding, followed by advanced fellowship training in Lower Limb Arthroplasty in Bradford. He further enhanced his expertise through fellowships at several prestigious institutions, including the Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry, Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, Karlsbad Langensteinbach in Germany, and the Spinal Foundation in Rochdale.

Appointed to Barnsley General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in April 2010, Mr. Patko serves as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a subspecialty interest in complex primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty.

He performs the full spectrum of hip arthroplasty procedures, including:

Cemented and uncemented total hip replacements

Total hip replacement for patients with fractured neck of femur

Use of ceramic bearings in younger patients


In revision hip surgery, Mr. Patko employs a range of advanced surgical techniques such as extended trochanteric osteotomies, trochanteric slide exposures, and pelvic reconstruction using mesh, reinforcement rings, and impaction bone grafting. He is proficient in both cemented and uncemented solutions, including the use of bulk allografts and modular femoral implants to manage varying degrees of femoral bone loss.
