About

Mr David Schultz is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and the Clinical Lead at the Benenden Hospital Eye Unit, involved in the delivery of the ‘Special Lens Service' at Benenden Hospital which includes the implantation of multifocal and astigmatism-correcting artificial lenses. He has also been the joint Lead of Vitreoretinal Surgery at East Kent Hospital NHS University Foundation Trust for the past 15 years. His specialist interest is in cataract surgery for complex cases, major eye trauma and vitreoretinal surgery, which includes dealing with the complications of cataract surgery. He also specialises in vitreoretinal disorders such as macular hole, epiretinal membrane, diabetic retinopthay, vitreous haemorrhage and retinal detachment.

Mr Schultz completed his initial ophthalmic training in Australia in 1991, coming to the UK shortly afterwards to undertake clinical fellowships in vitreoretinal surgery at both St Thomas' Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.

Mr Schultz remains actively involved in research, currently researching new methods of visualising structures in the eye to detect eye disease and is a visiting lecturer at the University of Kent. He is also a former meeting chair of the British and Eire Association of Vitreoretinal Surgeons.
