About Mr David McArthur
Mr. David McArthur is a highly experienced Consultant Colorectal, General, and Laparoscopic Surgeon based in Birmingham. His expertise extends to treating benign anorectal conditions such as piles, anal fissures, anal fistulas, and pilonidal sinus. Additionally, he is a fully trained, JAG-accredited colonoscopist, offering both diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopies. He graduated with Honours in Surgery from the University of Birmingham and earned an MD from the University of Warwick for his research into colorectal cancer pathogenesis. He completed a fellowship in laparoscopic colorectal surgery at Leeds, where he developed a particular interest in managing advanced and recurrent rectal cancer. In 2011, Mr. McArthur was appointed Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, continuing in this role at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust from 2018. There, he played a pivotal role in enhancing laparoscopic colorectal surgery and establishing the Midlands Advanced and Recurrent Rectal Cancer Unit (MARRCU), providing specialised care for patients with complex rectal cancer. Mr. McArthur is deeply committed to teaching and has held various educational roles throughout his career. He was a lecturer in anatomy at the University of Birmingham and is currently the course director for the Royal College of Surgeons' "Strategies in Emergency General Surgery" and the ACPGBI's "M42 Coloproctology for Junior Surgical Trainees" courses. His extensive publications and presentations on colorectal and general surgery are highly regarded, and he currently serves as Honorary Treasurer on the Executive of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland. Mr. McArthur founded The Birmingham Colorectal Clinic to provide high-quality private healthcare for patients with colorectal and general surgical conditions. His goal is to create a comfortable environment where patients can discuss their symptoms openly and receive tailored treatment options that suit their individual needs.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
