He is an Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Liverpool, where he undertakes clinical and translational research. His research interests include wrist replacement surgery, the management of wrist fractures, and the treatment of complications such as non-union, malunion and instability. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, including The Lancet and The Journal of Hand Surgery, and regularly contributes to the academic literature in hand and wrist surgery.

Mr Brown works closely with the medical device industry and acts as a consultant to orthopaedic implant manufacturers, including Acumed LLC and Swemac Innovations. He has been involved in the design and development of implants used in the treatment of wrist fractures and arthritis. He is regularly invited to teach and speak at national and international meetings on wrist replacement surgery and wrist trauma.
