Mr Ashok Sridhara Subramanian is a Consultant Orthopaedic Spine and Neurospine Surgeon with dual fellowship training in spinal surgery. He has completed the Central London Spinal Fellowship at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, as well as the Scottish National Spinal Deformity Fellowship in Edinburgh. His training includes advanced expertise in adult and paediatric spinal deformity correction, including complex osteotomy techniques.
Mr Subramanian manages a comprehensive range of spinal conditions affecting the craniovertebral junction through to the sacrum. His clinical practice includes the treatment of spinal trauma, tumours, infection, deformity, and degenerative disorders in both adult and paediatric patients. His specialist interests include spinal deformity surgery, minimally invasive spine surgery, and endoscopic spine surgery.
He is one of a limited number of surgeons in the United Kingdom trained in endoscopic spine surgery and has established this service at Musgrove Park Hospital, where he has developed a reference centre for this technique. He also acts as a proctor and mentor to surgeons in the UK, Europe, and Asia in the development of endoscopic spinal surgery programmes.
In addition to his clinical work, Mr Subramanian has served as a Specialist Advisor to NICE for spinal surgery. He is actively involved in medical education as a Senior Clinical Tutor at the University of Plymouth and has held teaching roles at the University of Edinburgh and the University of Bristol. He is also a Regional Surgical Ambassador for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
