He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from King Abdulaziz University in 1992. He later achieved Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (FRCSI) and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh (FRCSEd) in 1998. Dr Alnamshan also completed a clinical fellowship in general paediatric surgery at McMaster University in Canada in 2003 and holds a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. He is a member of the Canadian Association of Paediatric Surgeons.
