She qualified from Guys and St Thomas's Hospital School of Medicine in London in 1999 and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Anatomy. She undertook Ophthalmic Surgical training in London, including Moorfields Eye Hospital, and advanced subspecialty training in Canada, Australia, UK and the USA.
Miss Shams' clinical practice includes adult and paediatric oculoplastic surgery for eyelid malpositions, reconstructive surgery following trauma or removal of tumors of the eye, eyelid or eye socket and performs lacrimal surgery for blocked tear ducts. She performs cosmetic eyelid and periocular surgery by applying the the most upto date techniques and technology to acheive natural and effective results. She appreciates and enjoys the fine, precise and artistic nature of periocular cosmetic and reconstuctive surgery.
As part of a tertiary referral centre Miss Shams manages challenging cases requiring revision surery due to failure or complications of previous surgery and patients who require care within a multidisciplinary team.
In addition to her clinical practice, she contributes to clinical research in her field; publishing and reviewing for peer-reviewed journals, mentors and supervises ophthalmic trainees and regularly participates in national and international conferences.
In her free time Miss Shams enjoys outdoor sports, music, philosophy and politics.
