Miss Andrena McElvanney is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon. They have a special interest in ocular surface disease and eyelid conditions and have written numerous publications in this field.
They are currently Vice President of the European Contact Lens Society of Ophthalmologists (ECLSO) – an organisation devoted to promoting contact lens education and excellence within Europe. They are a past president of the Medical Contact Lens and Ocular Surface Association (MCLOSA) and the Southern Ophthalmological Society (SOS).
They are also a former BCLA council member and currently the UK national representative for MCLOSA. They have a keen interest in ophthalmic training and are currently the Regional Advisor for the South West Thames region for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and are a member of the ophthalmology specialty advisory group at the London School of Ophthalmology.
They are a former council member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and former member of both the professional standards and training committees. In 2013 they were presented with the Jonathan Kersley award for the eponymous lecture at ECLSO. They have also organised two contact lens themed seminars at EuCornea and remain an invited speaker. In addition, they have hosted several regional ophthalmology teaching sessions for Ophthalmologists. They recently presented at the SOE contact lens symposium in June 2019.
