About Dr Michael Findlay
Dr. Michael Findlay is a Plastic, Reconstructive, and Hand Surgeon, renowned for his expertise in cancer surgery, including head, neck, breast cancer, melanoma, non-melanoma skin cancers, as well as hand and lower limb resection and trauma. With a remarkable background as a translational surgical researcher, Dr. Findlay's contributions to the field are both clinical and academic. He is a former Fulbright scholar and currently serves as the Director of Australasian Clinical Trials in Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Dr. Findlay also leads the Program for Cellular and Molecular Innovation in Surgery at the University of Melbourne. His impressive academic journey includes roles as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Stanford University and the Inaugural Stanford Applied Regenerative Medicine Fellow. Notably, he was the first Australian appointed as a member of both the Association of Academic Surgeons and the Society of University Surgeons in the United States and became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 2013. His significant contributions to clinical care and surgical practice were recognised with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017. Dr. Findlay practices at multiple prestigious institutions, including the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Canberra Hospital, Epworth Freemasons, and the National Capital Private Hospital. He also maintains private rooms at Reconstructive Plastic Surgery Melbourne and Canberra. His educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree from The University of Queensland, advanced surgical training in general surgery, and a PhD from The University of Melbourne. Additionally, he completed a tenure as a Microsurgery Research Fellow and Honorary Fellow at St Vincent's Clinical School, and served as a Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Research Fellow. He has been a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons since 2008 and has held the position of Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive, and Hand Surgeon since 2009.
