About

Dr. Michael Bowes is a Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist with a focus on childhood arrhythmias, invasive electrophysiology, implantable devices, channelopathies, and inherited cardiac conditions. Since 2017, he has been a leading figure in paediatric electrophysiology, providing expert care for children affected by complex cardiac issues, including inherited conditions like long QT syndrome, Brugada syndrome, and CPVT.

Dr. Bowes collaborates closely with adult cardiology specialists at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital and Manchester Heart Centre, fostering a comprehensive, family-centred approach for patients affected by inherited cardiac disorders. His expertise extends to diagnosing and managing congenital heart diseases in neonates, infants, and children.

After initial training in general paediatrics in the North West, Dr. Bowes specialised in paediatric cardiology at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool. He advanced his skills in electrophysiology and inherited cardiac conditions with specialist training at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital and the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.

As a senior member of the Paediatric Cardiology service in the North West, Dr. Bowes is instrumental in the care of children across the region, working in major paediatric hospitals in Liverpool and Manchester and holding regular clinics in Wales. He is the only paediatric electrophysiologist in the region, responsible for conducting all electrophysiology studies and ablations for young patients and leading in the implantation of devices such as loop recorders, pacemakers, and defibrillators. As the lead for inherited cardiac conditions, Dr. Bowes is frequently consulted on the investigation, diagnosis, and management of life-threatening cardiac diseases in children.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
