About Dr Matthew Lyons
Dr Matthew Lyons is a nationally and internationally recognised Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising knee and hip joint replacement, along with arthroscopic sports knee surgery. He currently sees patients in North Sydney, Moore Park, Mudgee and Dubbo. Dr Lyons completed his medical degree and honours degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of New South Wales in 2000, followed by his specialist orthopaedic training in Sydney in 2009. He later pursued subspecialty orthopaedic fellowships at renowned institutions worldwide, including The Mater Hospital and North Sydney Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Centre (NSOSMC) where he gained expertise in arthroscopic and arthroplasty surgery of the knee and hip. In 2010 and 2011, Dr Lyons continued his training at the University Hospital at the London Health Sciences Centre in Ontario, Canada. Here, he focused on subspecialty training in primary and revision arthroplasty of the hip and knee. Returning to Australia in 2011, Dr Lyons began his private practice at North Sydney Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Centre and engaged in public work at Dubbo Base and Hornsby Hospitals. Dr Lyons has specialist expertise in a range of surgical procedures, including: arthroscopic knee surgery, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, patellofemoral reconstruction (MPFL), knee osteotomy (realignment) surgery. He also has expertise in joint replacement surgery encompassing total knee replacement, partial (unicompartmental) knee replacement, revision knee replacement for failed, painful, or infected prosthetic joints, total hip replacement, revision total hip replacement, and robotics and computer-assisted technology. As a partner of North Sydney Orthopaedic Research Group (NSORG), Dr Lyons contributes to producing high-quality, clinically significant research on orthopaedic conditions of the hip and knee. This collaborative effort has resulted in numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, with invitations to speak at national and international conferences. Currently, Dr Lyons is actively involved in various implant development projects for knee and hip replacements, aiming to enhance patient function, pain control, and longevity. Dr Lyons holds professional memberships with the Australian Knee Society, Arthroplasty Society of Australia, Australian Orthopaedic Association, International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery & Sports Medicine, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
