Von 2006 bis 2013 absolvierte er ein PhD-Studium im Fachbereich Vaskuläre Biologie mit einer Dissertation zur Wirkung der Heme-Oxygenase-1-Induktion bei Ischämie-Reperfusionsschäden in der Skelettmuskulatur. Die Habilitation (Privatdozent) erfolgte im Jahr 2014.
Seine klinische Facharztausbildung in der Herzchirurgie schloss er im November 2014 ab. Zuvor absolvierte er eine postgraduelle klinische Ausbildung in Innerer Medizin mit Stationen in klinischer Pharmakologie, Kardiologie sowie Gastroenterologie und Hepatologie. Die spezialisierte Ausbildung in der Herzchirurgie umfasste Herzchirurgie, Thoraxchirurgie und Anästhesie.
Internationale klinische Erfahrungen sammelte Dr. Andreas im Jahr 2004 am Dr. Jeyasekharan Hospital in Nagercoil, Indien, in der Abteilung für Pneumologie und Intensivmedizin sowie 2005 an der Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Neben seiner klinischen Tätigkeit ist er seit 2004 kontinuierlich in der medizinischen Forschung aktiv. Er war assoziierter Forscher am Labor für Klinische Mikrobiologie der Medizinischen Universität Wien, in der kardiologischen Forschungsgruppe der Universitätsklinik für Kardiologie sowie in der kardiovaskulären Forschungsgruppe der Klinischen Pharmakologie. Seit 2009 ist er Teil der klinischen und wissenschaftlichen Forschungsgruppe für Herzklappenerkrankungen an der Universitätsklinik für Herzchirurgie, seit 2014 zudem in der Forschungsgruppe für Herztransplantation tätig.
Dr. Andreas war an mehreren geförderten Forschungsprojekten beteiligt, darunter Projekte des Wiener Bürgermeisterfonds sowie des Jubiläumsfonds der Österreichischen Nationalbank zu Themen wie kardiovaskuläre Protektionsmechanismen, Aortenaneurysmen, Kapillarlecksyndrom unter extrakorporaler Zirkulation und oxidativer Stress im humanen Herzen.
Neben der klinischen und wissenschaftlichen Arbeit ist Dr. Andreas in der akademischen Lehre tätig. Zu seinen Lehrveranstaltungen an der Medizinischen Universität Wien zählen unter anderem physikalische Gesundheits- und Krankenuntersuchung, ärztliche Gesprächsführung, Reanimation, Planung klinischer Studien, chirurgische Wundversorgung, Training von Herzchirurgie-Devices sowie angewandte Forschung in der Herzchirurgie. Zudem hielt er Vorlesungen im Fach Herzchirurgie.
Aktuell bekleidet Dr. Andreas neben seiner ärztlichen Tätigkeit die Funktion des Vorsitzenden des Betriebsrates für das wissenschaftliche Personal der Medizinischen Universität Wien sowie die Funktion des Kassiers im Alumni-Club der Medizinischen Universität Wien.
