About
He has trained at respected centres including Frimley Park, Frenchay Hospital, and Johannesburg, and studied at the Universities of St Andrews and Manchester. This extensive and diverse training background underpins his clinical excellence and breadth of experience.
Col Foster regularly performs procedures such as carpal tunnel decompression, ganglion excision, trigger finger and trigger thumb release, and surgery for Dupuytren’s contracture. He also manages de Quervain's tenosynovitis. He is also highly skilled in scar revision and excision of skin lesions on the upper limb. His surgical approach is always patient-centred, aiming to restore function as quickly and safely as possible while addressing each individual’s personal goals.
Known for his calm and reassuring manner, Mark is praised by patients for being approachable, clear in his explanations, and genuinely invested in their recovery. He takes time to listen, ensuring that patients feel supported, respected, and well-informed at every stage of their treatment.
Alongside his clinical work, Col Foster serves as Chief clinical Infomation Officer at University Hospitals Birmingham, where he has played a key role in improving patient pathways and digital health. He is also an active academic and educator, lecturing at the University of Birmingham and supervising research in trauma physiology and clinical trials.
