À propos
Mr Kaprinis (MD, MSc, PhD, FEBO) is a highly skilled Ophthalmic Surgeon with extensive clinical experience across the range of Ophthalmology.
He graduated Medical School from the University of Athens in 2007 and subsequently received comprehensive training in Ophthalmology. His subspecialty training includes three very prestigious fellowships in Vitreoretinal Surgery, in Royal Liverpool Hospital, Cheltenham General Hospital and Whipps Cross Hospital in London, as well as dedicated fellowships in Cataract Surgery and Medical Retina in Lincoln General and Southampton University Hospitals.
He is proficient in cataract surgery including high-complexity cataract cases, and very experienced in the use of premium intraocular implants including multifocal, toric and extended depth-of-focus lenses, aiming for less patients’ dependence on spectacles following surgery.
Moreover, he has excelled in the field of small gauge vitreoretinal surgery, and he has vast experience in a wide range of retinal conditions requiring surgical management. These include floaterectomy; retinal detachments; macular surgery, macular holes and epiretinal membranes; highly complex diabetic retinopathy; secondary intraocular lenses, scleral fixation lenses and more.
He also has extensive knowledge in the management of retinal conditions requiring medical treatment such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and other vascular problems of the retina and he is very experienced in ophthalmic lasers.
In addition to providing high-quality elective and emergency vitreoretinal care, he is deeply committed to teaching and training. He plays an active role in the supervision of ophthalmic trainees and junior surgeons, as well as in undergraduate medical education. He also has a strong academic background, having completed both a Master’s degree and a PhD, with research published in peer-review journals and presented at international conferences. Alongside his clinical and academic work, he contributes to departmental leadership and has led several quality improvement projects across the services in which he has worked.
In 2024, he was appointed as Consultant Ophthalmic and Vitreoretinal Surgeon in Northern Care Alliance NHS Trust. He is currently practicing in Greater Manchester, Leeds and Yorkshire. He routinely performs cataract surgery, as well as both emergency and elective vitreoretinal procedures, with an annual workload exceeding 500 vitrectomy cases.
