À propos
Ms Karen Gordon is a substantive Consultant Urological Surgeon and Lead for Paediatrics and Female Functional Urology at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust.
In addition to offering general urological care to men and women, her practice encompasses paediatric urology, female lower urinary tract dysfunction, recurrent urinary tract infections, overactive bladder, functional urology, and voiding dysfunction in men and women.
Ms Gordon holds an MBChB degree from the University of Bristol and completed her higher surgical and urological training under the London Health Education England. She also holds a PhD in pharmacy practice and policy from the University of London, where her doctoral research focused on medication safety and polypharmacy in primary care. Her work, which led to the development of an innovative screening tool to reduce risk of medication-related complications, is still quoted, and led to two prizes. This achievement reflects her rigorous analytical mindset and commitment to reducing risk for patients.
This rare integration of surgery and academia in pharmacy practice and policy expertise allow her to take a holistic view of complex cases, particularly where symptoms intersect with long-term medication use, which is often the case in the urological medical management of patients.
Ms Gordon's academic and research portfolio has led to authored, and contributions to, peer-reviewed publications. Her academic appointment as Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Kent reflects her ongoing contribution to education and research. She has also recently been appointed as regional benign urology specialty group lead for NIHR research development network.
Patients value Ms Gordon’s calm and compassionate communication style. She is meticulous and places a strong emphasis on shared decision-making.
Whether managing a child with a urological condition or an adult with life-impacting bladder symptoms, her focus remains constant: safe surgery, functional recovery and measurable improvement in quality of life.
