Dr Iskander Al-Githmi is a Professor and Consultant Cardio-Thoracic Surgeon, providing expert care for patients with a range of conditions affecting the heart, lungs, and other organs within the chest. His areas of clinical interest include minimally invasive and robotic thoracic procedures, valve surgery, and lung transplantation.
Dr Al-Githmi earned his medical degree from King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah. He completed extensive postgraduate training in Canada, undertaking a residency in General Surgery and fellowships in Thoracic Surgery and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Manitoba. He also completed fellowships in Cardiac Surgery at the University of Alberta and the University of Toronto, and a lung transplantation fellowship at the University of Toronto. In 2022, he completed a course in Surgical Leadership at Harvard University.
He is certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in General Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, and Cardiac Surgery. Dr Al-Githmi is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He has published more than 40 papers in international surgical journals.
