Professor I-Van Ho is a highly experienced vitreoretinal surgeon and macular disease specialist, dedicated to diagnosing and treating conditions affecting the macula, retina, and vitreous. His expertise includes retinal imaging techniques and small-incision vitrectomy surgery. A graduate of Sydney Medical School at the University of Sydney, he completed his ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital before undertaking advanced fellowships in vitreoretinal surgery and medical retina at both Sydney Eye Hospital and the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. In 2006, he further specialised in macular disease and medical retina through a fellowship at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital and the Vitreous Retina Macula New York in the United States.
Alongside his clinical work, Professor Ho holds academic positions as a Professor of Ophthalmology and Head of Ophthalmic Surgery at the Australian School of Advanced Medicine at Macquarie University and as a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney’s Save Sight Institute, Department of Ophthalmology. He is a member of several prestigious professional organisations, including the Australian and New Zealand Society of Retinal Specialists, the Oceania Retina Association, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Retina Specialists.
Professor Ho is currently a vitreoretinal surgeon at Sydney Eye Hospital’s Retinal Unit, where he also leads the Vitreoretinal Fellowship, supporting the next generation of specialists in this field. He also holds a consultant position at Bankstown Hospital. Fluent in English, he also speaks Mandarin and Cantonese, allowing him to provide care to a diverse range of patients.
