After completing her medical education in Ireland, Dr. Kazim interned at a government hospital in Dubai, where she encountered advanced breast tumours unlike any she had previously studied. Confronted with barriers such as superstition, fear, and modesty that hindered Emirati women from seeking treatment, she was inspired to become a trailblazer in her field.
Determined to address these challenges, Dr. Kazim undertook advanced training in General Surgery and Surgical Oncology at prestigious institutions, including the Royal Marsden Hospital in London and MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Upon returning to the UAE as the country’s first female surgeon, she established a groundbreaking outreach program focused on breast cancer education, body awareness, and treatment options for women.
In 2006, Dr. Kazim founded the UAE’s first Well Woman Clinic, staffed exclusively by women to cater to all aspects of women’s healthcare. She also launched Brest Friends, the first breast cancer support group in Dubai, which later partnered with the Al Jalila Foundation in 2015. This collaboration aims to enhance early detection of breast cancer, support medical treatment, and advance research into the disease’s epidemiology in the UAE and the broader region.
