Mr Swamy completed his orthopaedic and spinal surgical training in Derby and Nottingham, followed by advanced fellowships in complex spinal surgery. These included placements at Utrecht Medical Centre in the Netherlands, the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London, Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals, as well as travelling fellowships at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA, and Queen Mary Hospital in Hong Kong.

He plays an active role in education and training, contributing to the East Anglia orthopaedic training rotation and regularly teaching on FRCS preparation courses. He is the coordinator of the Senior Norwich Spinal Fellowship, preparing senior spinal surgeons for future consultant roles. In addition, he frequently serves as faculty at national and international spinal conferences and training courses, and holds honorary academic appointments at universities abroad.
