About

Dr Giovanni Villa is a Consultant in Infectious Diseases and PrEP Lead Clinician with extensive experience in infectious diseases, HIV prevention and global health research. He graduated with a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Udine in 2008, where his early academic work focused on vertebral osteomyelitis and complex infections.

He subsequently completed specialist training in Infectious Diseases at the University of Verona, developing a particular interest in antimicrobial resistance and infection management. Driven by a commitment to global health and emerging infectious diseases, Dr Villa later completed a Master of Science in Tropical and Infectious Diseases at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.

Dr Villa continued his academic and clinical research career at the University of Liverpool, where he completed a PhD in Infection and Global Health within Professor Anna Maria Geretti’s research group. His research experience includes molecular virology, nucleic acid extraction, PCR amplification, Sanger sequencing, epidemiology and statistical analysis, with a focus on translational research and the application of scientific innovation to patient care.

Since 2019, he has worked in the United Kingdom as both a clinician and researcher. He currently serves as PrEP Lead Clinician at Ascleon Medical, with clinical interests in genitourinary medicine, HIV prevention, sexual health and the management of complex infections.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Villa remains actively involved in research relating to antimicrobial resistance, HIV medicine and global health, while also contributing to the training and mentorship of junior healthcare professionals.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
