About Dr Gerard Bourke
Dr. Gerard Bourke is an Australian trained Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialisation in Foot, Ankle, and Knee surgery. He graduated from the University of Melbourne Medical School in 1989. Following his medical degree, Dr Bourke continued his education and training, achieving graduation from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons with a focus on Orthopaedics in 1999. He pursued further specialisation by completing a Fellowship in Foot and Ankle Surgery. To enhance his expertise, Dr Bourke gained valuable experience through international fellowships and courses in the United States. He trained under renowned experts in the field, including Dr Ted Hanson in Seattle, Dr Mark Myerson in Baltimore, Dr James Brodsky in Dallas and Dr Tom Clanton in Houston. This international exposure provided him with diverse perspectives and advanced techniques in foot and ankle surgery. Dr Bourke has completed various advanced courses to further develop his skills. These courses include Ilizarov Deformity Correction, Taylor Spatial Frame Instructional Course and Baltimore Limb Deformity Correction. He is affiliated with several professional organisations, including the Australian Orthopaedic Association, the Royal College of Australasian Surgeons, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (as an international member) and the Australian Foot and Ankle Society. Dr Bourke also has a particular interest in biomechanics and gait analysis. He specialises in pressure studies using in-shoe pedobarography.
