À propos
Georgie Ashton is a registered Clinical Psychologist, Hakomi Graduate, and EMDR Practitioner with over 15 years of experience working with individuals, couples, and adolescents in both private practice and specialised public care settings.
She holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology as well as a second Master’s degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy. From the outset of her career, Georgie Ashton has been deeply interested in how early life experiences shape the mind, body, behaviours, and relationships in later life, and in how people can heal from difficult experiences to reset unhelpful patterns and reach their full potential.
Georgie Ashton’s work integrates mindfulness-based, body-oriented, and trauma-informed approaches to address a range of issues including attachment difficulties, relationship challenges, trauma, addictions, eating disorders, and parenting concerns. She has extensive experience supporting clients who have suffered complex trauma, including developmental trauma, attachment disruptions, and life-threatening events. Additionally, she works with individuals who have experienced psychosis and paranoia and has significant experience working with adult survivors of child abuse. Her practice is grounded in assisting individuals, couples, and parents to access greater choice, freedom, and wellbeing in their lives.
Recognising that traditional cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) approaches could not always fully access the unconscious and attachment processes central to complex trauma, Georgie Ashton pursued advanced training in Hakomi Mindful Somatic Psychotherapy. This mindfulness-based, body-oriented method integrates elements of internal family systems (IFS), sensorimotor and somatic experiencing (SE), gestalt, and interpersonal therapies. Dr. Ashton found that this approach allowed her to meet complex trauma with greater compassion, effectiveness, and depth—creating safety for clients to connect more fully with their minds and bodies in a way that supports profound and lasting change.
To further expand her therapeutic toolkit, Georgie Ashton later trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). She carefully integrates EMDR within her trauma-informed practice, recognising that for complex and attachment trauma, EMDR is most effective when combined with the foundational principles and safety provided by Hakomi and other somatic approaches.
