Miss Eleni Nikita is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with specialist expertise in adult and paediatric glaucoma and cataract surgery.
Miss Nikita gained her medical degree in Greece, followed by her foundational ophthalmic training and completion of a Phd. She later relocated to the UK and completed two prestigious glaucoma fellowships, at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth), European Board of Ophthalmologists (FEBO) and International Council of Ophthalmologists (FICO). She is listed on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council (GMC).
Miss Nikita is currently a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in London, which consistently ranks amongst the top ophthalmic hospitals in the world. She is highly skilled in both conventional glaucoma surgery, including trabeculectomy, trabeculotomy and tube surgery, but also the more modern minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), including Preseflo and Hydrus implants. She has extensive experience in complex cataract surgery, especially in patients with co-existing glaucoma. When surgery is required, she provides bespoke customised treatment using the latest available evidence.
Outside the clinical work, Miss Nikita has been active in clinical research and has contributed to the field with active participation in clinical trials and publications in the field of ophthalmology. She is a regular reviewer of high impact factor ophthalmology journals.
She is also an active trainer for both doctors and healthcare professionals into their expanded clinical roles and one the members of the Educational Committee of the European Glaucoma Society, co-authoring surgical and educational guidelines.
Miss Nikita served from 2018-2021 as a Clinical Director at Moorfields and pioneered innovative schemes for glaucoma and cataract management, both within the hospital and in the community.
