Dr Duncan Macrae

About
Dr Macrae gained his medical qualification in Scotland before training in anaesthesia and paediatric intensive care around the UK and in Australia, at the Royal Children's Hospital (Melbourne). He then worked as a consultant paediatric intensivist at the renowned Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London, where he was based for a decade. In addition to his role at Royal Brompton Hospital, Dr Macrae also leads paediatric collaboration with Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
Dr Macrae is active in research and has taken part in a number of important clinical trials including treatments such as neonatal extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and inhaled nitric oxide. He has also spent time researching tight glycaemic control in ill children. Dr Macrae has more than 100 scientific papers and book chapters to his name; he also has experience reviewing and editing for top medical journals. He is the paediatric editor for Intensive Care Medicine and an associate editor for Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.
