About Dr Simone Vella
Simone Vella is a consultant gynaecologist working exclusively in private practice.
She previously worked at Princess Royal Maternity/Glasgow Royal Infirmary. She co-ran a multidisciplinary tertiary gynaecology dermatology clinic in the NHS treating women with vulval disorders which have been unresponsive to treatment.
She was undergraduate lead for obstetrics & gynaecology for the University of Glasgow Medical School, as well as undergraduate simulation lead for obstetrics and gynaecology for NHS GGC. She was college tutor for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists at Princess Royal Maternity in Glasgow.
In 1995, she qualified from the University of Malta Medical School. Her postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology took place in the UK, initially in Yorkshire and then in the West of Scotland. In 2007, she received a Certificate of Completion of training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and became a Senior Clinical University Teacher at the University of Glasgow and an Honorary Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Princess Royal Maternity/Glasgow Royal Infirmary. She took a career break to spend time with her young family and returned to fulltime work in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2013 and has been a consultant at the Princess Royal Maternity/Glasgow Royal Infirmary till 2023.
She sees patients with gynaecological complaints like menstrual disorders or postmenopausal bleeding and is able to carry out transvaginal ultrasound of the pelvis during the same appointment if necessary. She sees women with vulval complaints. She investigates and treats women with abnormal smear tests (colposcopy).
