About

Dr Simon Corbett qualified from St John’s College, Cambridge in 1997, graduating with a distinction in Medicine and a first-class honours degree in Pathology. He went on to train in Cardiology across Edinburgh, London and Milan.

His principal subspecialty interest is interventional and structural cardiology. From 2005 to 2006, Dr Corbett undertook a prestigious one-year fellowship in coronary intervention with the internationally renowned pioneer of coronary stenting, Dr Antonio Colombo, at San Raffaele Hospital and Columbus Hospital in Milan. Prior to his substantive consultant appointment, he worked as a Locum Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Hammersmith Hospital.

In June 2008, Dr Corbett was appointed Consultant Cardiologist with a specialist interest in coronary intervention at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, where he continues to practise within the Wessex Cardiothoracic Centre. In 2019, he joined the TAVI team treating patients with severe aortic stenosis. Alongside his clinical work, he has maintained a commitment to research. This began with his PhD in antibody engineering under Sir Greg Winter at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, completed through the University of Cambridge’s intercalated MB/PhD programme. He remains actively involved in multicentre randomised clinical trials and has published extensively on outcomes with drug-eluting stents in peer-reviewed medical journals, in addition to presenting his work at national and international conferences.
