Dr Callaghan is a Consultant Rheumatologist who qualified in 1996 and has held his NHS Consultant Rheumatolgist post in Gwent, South Wales, since 2005.

He has wide-ranging clinical expertise in all general rheumatological problems which includes inflammatory arthritis and autoimmune musculoskeletal disease. He trained at Cardiff University with subsequent higher specialist training in the West Midlands. He also has a special clinical interest in connective tissue disease (SLE/lupus, Sjogren's syndrome, myositis, scleroderma and vasculitis).

Dr Callaghan sits on his regional medicine and therapeutic committee and has provided support for various advisory boards. His research background includes participation in various regional and national clinical trials. His publications include rheumatoid arthritis, vasculitis, connective tissue disease, septic arthritis and fibromyalgia. As an Honorary

Clinical Teacher for the School of Medicine in Cardiff, he is also actively involved in the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs.

Any spare time he has is spent with his wife and 3 children. He is also a keen tennis player and has played competitive tennis since his younger days.
