About
Dr Maier qualified in Chemistry at University College London in 1973 and then later qualified in Medicine in 1988. He developed a particular interest for Psychiatry and completed training at The Bethlem Royal and Maudsley Hospital between 1989 and 1996. Alongside this training, he was undertaking a Welcome Training Fellowship at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. From this, he was awarded the Queen Square Prize in 1995. He joined the NHS in 1996 and was balancing clinical work, his research and also lecturing as a Clinical Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London. He is also a visiting professor at Buckinghamshire New University.
His service for the NHS has been accredited as ‘excellent' by the Royal College of Psychiatrists. He was also elected a fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2007 and then as a fellow of the Academy of Medical Educators in 2010.
