About

Dr Michael Brown is Consultant Physician and a specialist in Infectious Diseases, Tropical Medicine and Acute Medicine.

He has extensive experience in treating all forms of infection, including hospital-acquired infections and he has a specialist interest in the health of people who have lived in or travelled to, countries where more unusual infections are a major problem. He treats patients with various acute and chronic infections acquired in the UK, but also international patients who need specialist diagnosis and treatment.

After graduating in Medicine from Oxford University, Dr Brown completed his clinical training at University College Hospital and other London teaching hospitals. He was awarded a Wellcome Trust Fellowship and worked at the UK MRC Programme on HIV in Uganda for two years. He was awarded a PhD by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine for his research into the impact of coinfection with helminths on HIV disease.

Dr Brown was appointed as a Consultant Physician at University College London Hospital in 2007. He is Clinical Lead of the Hospital for Tropical Diseases and is a Senior Lecturer at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Alongside his clinical work, he manages an active research group working on parasitic infections, pulmonary tuberculosis, HIV and migrant health.
