About
After graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from Kings College University in 2001, he completed a Master's degree in Sports Physiotherapy at the University of Bath in 2011. He qualified as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist in 2012.
Mr Macdonald started his career in London, before travelling to New Zealand to work at the Adidas Sports Injury Clinic in Wellington. On returning to the UK he began to specialise in Sports Physiotherapy and worked at the Worcester Warriors Rugby Club for 7 seasons. Following this he joined Team Sky ProCycling, where he managed riders at the Giro D'Italia, World Road Championships, Paris-Roubaix and Tour of Flanders.
He spent 5 years with British Athletics, attending the 2016 Rio Olympics, 2017 World Championships and 2018 Commonwealth games. In 2018 he was appointed Head Physiotherapist for British Cycling, where he is responsible for managing the physiotherapy team and for athlete management across both the Olympic and Paralympic programmes in preparation for Tokyo 2020.
Mr Macdonald is passionate about education and is a part time Teaching Fellow at the University of Bath. He has a specialist interest in hamstring injury prevention and rehabilitation, and has published a number of research papers in this area.
