His research is supported by Cancer Research UK and the NIHR and focuses on improving outcomes for patients with head and neck cancer and persistent throat symptoms, with an emphasis on better function, fewer unnecessary interventions, and improved quality of life.

As a performing singer and member of Newcastle’s Voice of the Town Choir, he has first-hand understanding of the demands placed on the voice in professional use.
