Dr. Basem A Khalil is a highly accomplished and well-regarded British-trained Consultant Paediatric and Neonatal Surgeon, with a particular expertise in paediatric colorectal surgery. He is internationally recognised for his specialisation in short gut syndrome and provides consultations to patients from around the world.
Prior to joining King’s, Dr. Basem served as a Paediatric Consultant Surgeon at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. During his time there, he held the distinguished positions of Head of the Department of Paediatric Surgery and Secretary of the Hospital’s Medical Staff Committee. He also served as the Regional Specialty Professional Adviser for Paediatric Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England for the North-West of England. Dr. Basem played a crucial role in running the world-renowned service for short gut syndrome in Manchester, earning him international acclaim in this field. He also served as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester and the University of Salford.
After his successful tenure in Manchester, Dr. Basem was recruited by Sidra Medicine in Qatar, where he became part of the Founding Faculty of Paediatric Surgery and held the position of Director of Neonatal Surgery.
In addition to his expertise in surgery, Dr. Basem is also a public health expert with an impressive educational background. He holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Liverpool, a PhD in Public Health from the University of Gloucestershire, and a Master’s degree in Finance from the University of London.
Dr. Basem's special interests lie in a variety of paediatric and neonatal surgical areas, including Paediatric and Neonatal General Surgery, Paediatric Colorectal Surgery with a focus on Short Gut Syndrome, and Paediatric Oesophageal Surgery.
