Anaesthetics
About
Following this experience, Dr Silvers returned to Australia and was appointed as a full-time staff anaesthetist at The Alfred Hospital, where they eventually attained the position of Deputy Director of Anaesthesia. They were heavily involved in all facets of adult anaesthesia practice during this period. They were an active participant in the cardiothoracic anaesthesia program, which dealt with patients requiring heart and lung transplants and patients requiring artificial heart support. At The Alfred Hospital, Dr Silvers built upon their vascular experience and became the lead anaesthetist in the major thoracic aortic anaesthesia program. This was in addition to their interest in major trauma. They were also actively involved in a multidisciplinary team in relation to the management of large-scale blood transfusions.
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
