About

Dr Andrew Silvers is a consultant anaesthetist with a passion for cardiothoracic, neurosurgical, and vascular anaesthesia. They are committed to providing patients with the best possible care. Dr Silvers' training in anaesthesia was primarily at The Alfred Hospital. They were awarded their fellowship with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA). Following this, Dr Silvers sought further experience in the United States. They were appointed as an assistant professor at the University of California, Davis Medical Centre, where they worked for one year. At this hospital, Dr Silvers gained further experience in cardiothoracic anaesthesia, particularly in lung transplantation, major vascular and trauma. Their position also involved significant teaching and mentoring of junior staff.

Following this experience, Dr Silvers returned to Australia and was appointed as a full-time staff anaesthetist at The Alfred Hospital, where they eventually attained the position of Deputy Director of Anaesthesia. They were heavily involved in all facets of adult anaesthesia practice during this period. They were an active participant in the cardiothoracic anaesthesia program, which dealt with patients requiring heart and lung transplants and patients requiring artificial heart support. At The Alfred Hospital, Dr Silvers built upon their vascular experience and became the lead anaesthetist in the major thoracic aortic anaesthesia program. This was in addition to their interest in major trauma. They were also actively involved in a multidisciplinary team in relation to the management of large-scale blood transfusions.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
